Really, it has been a great year for our Southern teams. However, it has not been without difficulty and even, tragedy. Players have been shot, stabbed and in trouble legally. Coaches have behaved in ways “unbecoming”, made poor choices, gotten themselves fired and some have been highly stressed. Players threw punches and poked eyes. Officials became over-zealous in handing out personal foul penalties and some were reprimanded. The inevitable end-of –the-year coaching upheavals have caused considerable pain in a couple of circles and as my mama would say, it’s just been “tacky”.
But on the “sparkly side”, two Southern teams went all the way to the National Championship game in Pasadena. Right there in beautiful So Cal, Texas, #2 and Alabama, #1 played in the granddaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl. They played for the whole “shebang”, the Crystal football Coaches Trophy and the AP #1 status. What a stellar night it was and what a proud moment for Southern Football! The SEC has won the last 4 BCS National Titles and SEC commissioner, Mike Slive says that we’ve made such a good impression that, “they’re going to want us to come back”. ‘Sounds like a deal in the works to me. I DO love my football. Congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide, #1!
What’s Next
You can expect some more football stories and even some personal adventures. We’re not going to stop blogging.
National Signing Day is just around the corner – February 3, 2010. This is the day when high school recruits declare their intentions to accept the college football scholarships offered them. Southern schools promise to have several “top 10” finishers in terms of recruiting class rankings. We will follow that for sure.

Southern Girls “Season”
Well ladies, we did it. Yep, we’ve ended up on the “other side” of the 2009 NCAA Football Season. That long stretch of seemingly endless Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (used to be only Saturdays!) has come to an end. And, it’s an end that leaves SOUTHERN football shining in a very sparkly light. I for one, couldn’t be more proud.
I hope that some of us have learned a thing or two about football – I know I have. Maybe some of us felt a tad bit more interest during those football Saturdays as we gathered around the dip and chips at the foot of the widescreen TV. Some of us have gotten through the “we need a bigger TV” debate or we’ve gone out and just gotten one. Perhaps we have used some of our newfound knowledge at the tailgate party or to impress during dinner conversation. We may have even tuned in to sports radio to see what was being tossed around. The luckiest among us actually got a man to do a double take when we yelled “stay in your lanes!” during kick offs. But mostly, we just found a place to bond in common interest with others who understand our strengths and our shortfalls, where football is concerned – that is.
I am glad you asked your questions here and made your comments and joined me on this football journey. It’s been great fun for me. Thank you for that.
And, by the way….there are 234 days until the kick-off of the 2010 season. We’ll be counting, okay?

My girlfriends are begging me to do a mid-summer seminar on “College Football Basics 099″. Although I’m a walking football dictionary compared to them, I’m not nearly as knowledgeable as you. Would you consider being a guest speaker if the logistics can be arranged? (Do you have a speaker’s fee?) It could be a lovely bonding and educational experience similar to that presented by a certain nameless coach and his assistants at Alabama. (It may have been the one thing Coach Fr_______ did right!)
Meanwhile, Pasadena has gorgeous weather and the Rose Bowl is awe inspiring in its tradition, but I like being spoiled by our modern Southern stadia. Life is good!
I would definitely consider it! Thank you for asking. You can contact me at my email address and we will discuss it.
I agree; modern stadiums are MUCH more crowd friendly. Going out through a tunnel to get a soft drink or to the “facilities” is not what we are used to doing, is it? Too bad if you forgot to bring your ticket out with you. You had to show it to get back to your seat! But, it was an experience of a lifetime for me and I’d do it again. Maybe in 4 years???!
Charlsa, I wanted to thank you for your blog. It has been very informative and I enjoy the way you state that someone should improve. I look forward to reading more from you.
Thanks, Tricia! I have had a blast and will keep on with new ideas and posts. Please consider submitting your own story. I’d love to hear from you.
